Planning For the Road Ahead

sitech-bbtProject Company, Brenner Basistunnel BBT SE was able to avoid major errors, whilst saving time and money by revising their scheduling solution early.

The Brenner Pass is infamous for its traffic jams, being the primary connection between Italy and Austria. However a new project the Brenner Base Tunnel will drastically reduce traffic and travel time for commuters. With a budget close to $12 million AU, the BBT railway tunnel is currently under construction and is due to be completed by 2025. It will decrease travel time from 80 to 25 minutes and at 55km long, will be the second longest tunnel in the world.

Planning and project management are essential when undertaking such a high stake and enormous task. Brenner Basistunnel BBT SE, found that their initial CAD software proved too time-consuming and inflexible when adding changes to their plans and linking information. After scouring the market for an alternative solution, BBT SE chose the planning software, TILOS, from Trimble. In addition to meeting all of the project’s requirements, the software allowed expenses to be assigned to all processes. Also, very little training was required to master the easy to use interface.
