This impressive performance culminated in PPS receiving the prestigious CCF Victoria Innovation and Technology Excellence Award for their work on two major projects. The award recognises the implementation of cutting-edge technology to significantly improve project delivery, safety, sustainability, and overall industry performance – achievements PPS clearly demonstrated by leveraging this advanced system on their milling fleet.
On the West Gate Tunnel project, for instance, PPS deployed two of their milling machines enhanced with UTS. This allowed for complex multi-lane profiling at millimetre-level precision within a highly constrained environment. The technology enabled PPS to mitigate rework, reduced survey input, improved accuracy, and optimise plant usage. On this project the team achieved precise profiling under complex traffic conditions, which significantly cut down on manual survey requirements and boosted productivity across multiple crews.
Another milestone was the NSW RAAF Base Airport runway project, extending PPS’s involvement in airport runway projects to every Australian state. Here, their Wirtgen W250, equipped with a 3.8m drum and Trimble UTS, delivered unmatched millimetre accuracy at 3.8 metres per pass. This performance set a new national benchmark for profiling efficiency and safety, notably decreasing plant reversing movements by 50%.
